Length: 52 min.

Age Rating: 10+

Earth is a planet born of fire. For billions of years, volcanoes have helped forge our world into the shape we know today. Everything from the continents to life itself is created by volcanic energy

The story of the volcanoes is therefore also the story of the Earth and of ourselves.

In the film Volcanoes / The Fires of Creation, we explore the molten worlds and exploding craters that have created extraordinary ecosystems and unique wildlife through the ages.

Join adventurer and National Geographic photographer Carsten Peter as he takes pictures on the edge of active volcanoes in Indonesia, descends into dangerous lava lakes in Vanuatu and visits geysers and mineral deposits in Ethiopia.

We'll also take a closer look at the archaeological ghost town of Pompeii, which was completely buried during a prolonged and catastrophic volcanic eruption in 79 AD.

We'll also experience hydrothermal vents at the bottom of the world's oceans and look at the consequences of the Kilauea eruption in Hawaii in 2018.

Right now, over 500 active volcanoes continue their mass construction, constantly changing the shape and state of the Earth.
