The Dome Theatre
The Dome Theatre is the Planetarium’s cinema.
Here you can experience a space journey under the starry sky and the universe within the Digital Universe or nature and space through the spectacular IMAX movies – the world’s largest movie format.
The Doom Canvas
The Planetarium’s films are shown on the Dome Theatre 1000.m2 dome shaped canvas.
The canvas is so large that it encloses the audience and gives you the experience of being present in the film itself.
The sound system supports the overall experience with the films.
The DIGITAL UNIVERSE
Planetarium’s DIGITAL UNIVERSE was groundbreaking in giant format on the nearly 1.000m2 dome when it was installed back in 2014. Never had it been so beautiful, so sharp (4K resolution) and so bright.
Around the solar system and to the outer galaxies
The DIGITAL UNIVERSE can take you to the early childhood of the Solar System, where life arose on our planet. Or you can visit the Solar System’s planets and moons as they look today.
Why is the Dome Theatre the greatest place to watch movies?
In a normal cinema you will find that the picture is projected onto a canvas at the end of the hall. When you look at the can vas you might also see the other audiences, the walls in the side, the ceiling and what is around the canvas.
Maximizing the field of view
The dome chamber of the Planetarium Copenhagen has a special geometry, where the seating positions relative to the canvas maximizes the field of view. In this way, you only see the image or at best view and you are completely surrounded by the image.
Absolutely unique movie experience
The projected image is so large that it fills and even exceeds the primary field of view. It looks as if the picture’s borders are gone. This Optimization of the image size and the position of the canvas in relation to the seats gives and experience of being in the movie.
